Daily Devotional: September 26, 2023 – Hebrews 10:30-31

We know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. – Hebrews 10:30-31

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today, we explore a powerful message from Hebrews 10:30-31. When God says “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” it shows us that God is the ultimate judge of justice. Just like the sun sets and rises each day without fail, God sees everything and ensures justice is served.

The words “The Lord will judge his people” are a reminder of God’s role. Like a wise shepherd leading his flock, God distinguishes between right and wrong, guiding us along the right path.

The phrase “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God” might seem strange. But think of God’s might as a vast ocean or a towering mountain – His greatness is both edifying and humbling. This reminds us to maintain our reverence and respect for the Lord.

This scripture encourages us with hope and peace. Like a compass pointing north consistently, it reminds us of the steadfastness of God’s justice. So, with the knowledge that God is always observing us lovingly, let’s commit to spreading kindness daily. Remember, our compassionate God stands by us, eager to see us grow. This verse is a testament to His unceasing love and justice.

My Prayer

Dear God,

Your words remind us that You are our ultimate Judge. Like a beautiful tree providing shelter, we’re under Your loving watch. Just like a seed needing water to grow, we need Your guidance to lead us rightly.

Father, sometimes we make mistakes, like a wayward branch that strays from the tree. By Your mighty words, teach us to be patient and to leave justice to You. Just like a river stays its course, help us to stay our course in You.

Guide us to understand the ‘dreadful’ part of falling into Your hands. Humble us, like a small bird in a vast sky, reminding us of how great You are. Invite us into Your warm embrace, oh Lord.
May we live and breathe Your words, spreading love and kindness wherever we go.

Amen.
