Daily Devotional: September 23, 2023 – Romans 5:3-4

We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. – Romans 5:3-4

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today’s verse is from Romans 5:3-4. It says, “We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

When we read this verse, it might seem strange. Why would we be happy about suffering? But let’s think about it a bit more. Sometimes, life gives us hard times. Maybe we are sick. Maybe we lost a job. Maybe we are having trouble with friends. Those hard times make us feel bad. We may wish they never happened.

But this verse tells us a different view. In the hard times, we learn to keep going. This is called perseverance. And when we keep going, it helps us become better people. We become strong and brave. This is character. And when we are strong and brave, we can have hope for the future.

So, next time we have a hard day, let’s try to remember this verse. We can find joy, even when things are tough. Because we know that tough times help us grow. They make us stronger. And they give us hope.

No matter how hard it is, let’s keep going. Let’s be brave. And let’s always have hope. This is what our verse today tells us.

My Prayer

Dear God,

Life can be tough sometimes. When things get hard, it can be easy to give up. But help us remember today’s verse.

Help us rejoice in our sufferings, knowing it’s making us stronger. Teach us to keep going when things are hard. This is perseverance.
Help us grow into brave and strong people. This is character. And most importantly, it helps us to always have hope. Even when things are tough, fill our hearts with hope for the future.

Thank you for being with us at all times good and hard. We trust that you are using every part of our life to shape us and to give us hope.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
