Daily Devotional: September 09, 2023 – Titus 2:2

“Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love, and in endurance” – Titus 2:2

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today, we’re exploring a beautiful nugget of truth from Titus 2:2. In today’s world, it feels like a love letter, a reminder to all of us, not only men and not only the elderly. It speaks to us about self-control, respect, and love. Who shouldn’t strive to be these?

Every day we encounter situations that test our patience and character, whether it’s a slow driver when we’re in a hurry or finding an insult in a harmless comment. This verse reminds us to stay calm and in control, respectful towards others, and steadfast in our faith.

But how often do we fall short? Aren’t there times when we lose patience or react negatively? That’s where faith comes in, that’s where endurance shines. It reminds us that it’s okay to be a work in progress. It doesn’t matter how many times we stumble, what matters more is how many times we get back up, trying to be more loving, respectful, and controlled.

And so, today’s verse teaches us an important lesson; it’s a compass, letting us know that falling short is a part of the process, but striving towards these qualities is what takes us closer to our faith. Isn’t that beautiful?

My Prayer

Dear God,

Help us remember Titus 2:2 in tough times. When we’re mad, remind us to stay cool. When feeling alone, fill us with faith. When we’re unkind, show us how to love. When we’re geared for a fight, teach us patience. Guide us like the gentle hand in a storm, help us keep our balance, and remain calm.

It’s not easy, Lord, but with Your help, we believe we can. Thank you for being there, for guiding us, and for bringing peace into our lives.

Amen.
