Daily Devotional: September 04, 2023 – 2 Timothy 1:13-14

“What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you — guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.” – 2 Timothy 1:13-14

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today, let’s delve into a strong lesson about embracing the teachings received in faith. Are we genuinely attentive and passionate about God’s word? Do we take these messages to heart?

The phrase “guard the good deposit” opens a meaningful metaphor. Picture a precious little gem that a dear friend gifts us. This gem symbolizes faith, hope, and love that God has vested in us through His son. We are responsible for guarding this gem. But, not with apprehension, with love. This precious gem reflects God’s glory within us.

We are not left alone in this task. The verse author, Paul, specifies that the safeguarding is to be done with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. We have a constant helper, the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to guard this gem with our own strength.

We are fully equipped to protect our faith. By doing so, we express faith and love in Christ Jesus and become living evidence of God’s grace and love in our lives. Remember, God walks beside us every step of the way. His teachings and His strength guide us every day.

My Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for entrusting me with the priceless gift of faith, hope, and love. Help me to keep the teachings close to my heart and live by them every day. I desire to reflect Your love and glory to those around me.

Holy Spirit, I need Your support to guard this precious deposit. I can’t do it with my own strength. Remind me to lean on You when I feel weak or confused. Encourage me to hold on to these teachings when the world gets noisy and distracting.

Lord, I want to be a living testament of Your grace. Give me the wisdom and love I need to live a life pleasing to You. I commit to guarding this gift with love, faith, and steadfast trust in You.
