Daily Devotional: October 8, 2023 – Isaiah 43:11-12

“I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.” – Isaiah 43:11-12

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Imagine a tree, standing tall and strong, its leaves rustling in the wind. Now imagine that tree as our Lord, as stated in Isaiah’s words: “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me, there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses that I am God.”

Just like we can’t substitute a mere sapling for a strong tree, we can’t replace God with money, friends, or luck. Remember, there’s no real savior apart from God Himself.

As we scoop the soil for planting a seed today, let’s plant God’s essence in our hearts, too. He is there to protect and nourish us, just like the tree that provides shade and sustenance for others.

The tree doesn’t need to announce it’s a tree, and we, as its witnesses, can confirm its tree-ness. Similarly, we testify to God’s Godliness. We need to spread this apart from sharing the tasty fruits of the tree.

Being God’s helper is like being a gardener of faith. It’s not a job but an honor and privilege, just like it’s an honor to take care of God’s creation. And it starts by acknowledging, God is our only Savior, like a tree is the only provider of its unique shade.

My Prayer

Dear Lord,

As we pause in our day, we submit our hearts to You. Help us to remember that You alone are our Savior.

Just like a tree, Your presence stands tall and strong in our lives, Your wisdom whispers through us like the rustling leaves. As a tree bears fruits, may our lives bear the fruits of Your love for others to taste and see.

Guide us, Lord, as we find comfort and protection under Your mighty branches. Teach us to turn to You, instead of money, luck, or friends for true salvation. Help us to plant seeds of Your truth in our hearts and others, nurturing them with care.

Finally, may we be faithful witnesses, just as we witness the strength and beauty of a tree. We ask for Your guidance in spreading Your word, as naturally as sharing fruits from the tree of life.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
