Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Let’s sit for a moment with Proverbs 19:20-21 in our hearts. “Listen to advice and accept instruction and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Hmm, how big and true these words are! There’s so much wisdom in them, isn’t there? We are advised to listen, learn, and be humble. We won’t be wise right away. No, it takes time. In the end, after some bumps maybe, wisdom will come.

And, oh those plans we make! We all have many plans, don’t we? But it’s important to remember something. Our plans are not always the way things will happen. The Lord’s purpose, His plan, is what will stand in the end.

Sometimes, this can be hard to take in. We love our plans. Yet, time and time again, it’s God’s plan that comes to pass. It’s a gentle reminder for us. To listen. To learn. To accept that we don’t always know best, and that’s okay. Because someone does, and that’s the Lord.

In our beautiful Bible covers, adorned with verses like these, we find the greatest wisdom. A wisdom that guides and molds us. And we are blessed by it, day after day.

My Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day you have given us. We come to you with humble hearts, eager to learn and grow.

Help us to truly listen and accept your teachings, Lord. Let us not just hear, but understand and apply. Fill us with your wisdom, bit by bit, every single day.

Sometimes, it’s tough to let go of our plans, of the paths we thought were right. But we trust in you, Lord. Your purpose and your plan are what we want. Even when it seems hard, remind us that you know best.

In our quiet moments, as we sit with the Word covered in our beautiful leather Bibles, speak to us. Remind us of your love and wisdom.

We ask this in Jesus’ name,

Amen.
