Daily Devotional: October 07, 2023 – Psalm 63:1

“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” – Psalm 63:1

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Hello, dear friend. Let’s take some time today to consider Psalm 63:1. It says, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

This verse brings to mind just how deeply we need God, similar to how our physical bodies need water. This isn’t about a little thirst – it’s about a deep, all-consuming kind of thirst.

Have you ever been outside on a super hot day – maybe during summer vacation? The sun’s high in the sky, and you are extremely thirsty. You are in dire need of a cool, soothing glass of water. That feeling is the kind of longing and thirst that the verse speaks of.

How does that relate to us today? We often find ourselves in a ‘dry and weary land’ – juggling so many things in our daily life. Perhaps you can relate to it too. It’s tiring, isn’t it? But guess what? As much as our bodies demand water, our soul yearns for God.

It’s important to remember to ‘drink up’ God’s love and peace each day. It’s like refilling our souls and bringing a soothing calmness back into our lives. Think of God as our eternal source of spiritual hydration. Go on, take a deep gulp!

My Prayer

You are my God. I earnestly seek you as my soul thirsts for you. As we go about our day filled with tasks and stress, help us remember to stop and seek you. Just like we drink water to quench our physical thirst, we know that you, and only you, can satisfy our spiritual thirst.

Lord, help us feel your love and peace. We want to experience that cool, refreshing feeling in our spirit, just as we do when we drink water on a hot day. Our lives can feel like a dry, weary land. We ask for your help and guidance to make us feel refreshed and renewed.

In a world that sometimes feels dry, help us to keep seeking you. We know that with you, our thirst is satisfied. Thank you, Lord, for always being there for us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
