Daily Devotional: October 01, 2023 – Matthew 5:11-12

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” – Matthew 5:11-12

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today’s Bible verse is Matthew 5:11-12. It talks about a tough thing: being insulted, hurt, and told lies about. Sounds tough, don’t you think? In this verse, Jesus says, though, that when people do this to us because we follow Him, we are blessed. Wow, that’s strange, right?

I once had someone say bad things about me because I wouldn’t lie to them. I was upset, of course. But then, I found this verse. I realized that Jesus had promised something special for me in heaven, just because I stood up for the right thing, for Him.

Just like the prophets that came before us, we are on God’s team. And being on God’s team means sometimes people won’t like what we do or what we stand for. But that’s okay. We have a reward waiting for us in heaven that is better than any good thing on earth.

So, even when it’s hard, we can be happy knowing we’re doing it for Jesus. And He sees, and He knows, and He’s ready to greet us with a big ‘well done’ when we get to heaven. That’s something to make us rejoice, don’t you think?

My Prayer

Dear God, thank you for being with us when others are unkind or lie about us because we follow you. It is not easy, but your word says we are blessed in those times. Help us to remember that truth.

We ask for the courage to always be honest and to stand up for what is right, just like the prophets. Let us never be afraid of the lies others may spread about us since we know we have a great reward in heaven.

Keep our hearts at peace, knowing we are on your team. May we continue to be brave, stand for truth, and follow your path, no matter how hard it may be.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
