Daily Devotional: August 14, 2023 – Revelation 3:14, 20

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. … “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:14, 20

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Our Bible verse for today comes from Revelation 3:14, 20. It paints a picture of God patiently knocking on the door of our hearts, awaiting our invitation to enter. This beautiful imagery is a constant reminder that God is ever present in our lives, even when we aren’t immediately conscious of His presence.

Just like a friend who shows up at your doorstep, ready to spend time with you, God is there. There may be times when we’re occupied with other things, not really hearing His knock. Or, sometimes we might choose to overlook it. However, our steadfast Friend doesn’t just leave. He continues to knock, patiently waiting for us to open the door.

This verse guides us to pause and listen for that knock. To break away from our hectic, everyday routine, be still, and focus on the soft tapping in our hearts. This knocking varies from person to person. Some might hear a gentle whisper, others might feel a compelling itch, or see a striking sign.

We’re given the choice to open our hearts to Him or not. God respects our liberty to engage Him in our world. This verse serves as a reminder to make space amidst our busyness to welcome Him. After all, an encounter with this Friend always leaves your heart full of joy, love, and peace.

My Prayer

Dear Lord, my prayer today is simple but sincere. Please assist me in quieting the distractions of the world to feel your gentle knock on my heart’s door. Teach me to take breaks and carve out moments for you on my packed day.

Guide me to perceive your subtle call, beckoning me to let you in. Grace me with the courage to unfasten my heart and invite you in.

I welcome you into my heart today, Lord. Let your love, wisdom, and tranquility flood my heart, revolutionizing my existence in remarkable ways. Today, I unlock my heart to you, Lord. Come in.
