Daily Devotional: September 5, 2023 – Matthew 28:18-20

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age –Matthew 28:18-20

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today, let’s ponder on a very special scripture from Matthew 28:18-20. It’s a poignant reminder from Jesus Himself, asserting that He holds all power- on earth and in heaven, every bit of it!

Isn’t this a big deal? But wonderfully so, Jesus extends to us a portion of this grand task. He desires for us to help others, near and far, to know Him. His words invite us not only to share His teachings with our friends and family, but with everyone we encounter. It’s an embracing call to everybody, everywhere.

And the best part? Jesus promises us that we will never be alone in this task. Yes, that’s right! He assures us He’ll be alongside us, consistent as a faithful friend. This thought fills us with warmth, like snuggling in a soft, cozy blanket. He tells us, “I am with you.” Constantly. Forever.

So, let’s remember this as we navigate through our daily lives. As we form new relationships, show kindness, and share the teachings of Jesus, remember, we’re never alone. Jesus is always by our side!

My Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the reminder today that Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth. And what a joy that He shares this responsibility with all of us!

Help us, Father, as we strive to bring more disciples to You. Give us the words, the actions, and the warmth that can guide others toward Your love. Let Jesus’ teachings light our path, as we reach out to people around us.

And in those quiet moments, when we might feel alone, remind us of Jesus’ promise. Help us feel His comforting presence, like a cozy blanket wrapped around us.
We know He is with us. Always. Until the very end of age and beyond. What a comforting thought!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
