I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth – Psalm 121:1-2
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
When I look up to the towering hills, my heart fills with awe. Standing tall, never changing, they weather every storm and yet remain unperturbed–just like the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. This prompts a thought, where indeed does our help come from? Perhaps you’ve also questioned this during the shadow of towering troubles.
Psalm 121:1-2 provides us with a gently comforting answer: “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” This truth may offer the gentle nudge we need, urging us to cast our sight and hearts higher than the hills, to God, the Architect of all creation.
Like the everlasting hills, God stays unchanging and unshaken, extending His strength to us, a might much greater than any mountain. Strong yet gentle, His help is as constant as the hills beneath the skies. When our spirits are low, it’s soothing to know that our help comes from the One who painted the sky, dotted it with stars, and laid the foundations of the world.
Remember, as we encounter life’s ups and downs, we’re not wandering alone. Our help comes from beyond the hills, where the rivers begin their journey and the sun births a new day. It comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. A gentle reminder that’s as nourishing as a gentle rain on parched land.
My Prayer
Dear Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, I seek your divine guidance. My heart often trembles under life’s towering troubles, seemingly as tall as the hills. It is then that I remind myself to look beyond these hills, to You, the architect of everything around us and in us. Assure me in these moments that I am not alone, that you are my unwavering helper.
Gift me with the wisdom to recognize your work in my life, to remember that the same hands that carved the hills and set the stars in the sky are ever present with me, ready to help. Let this be my calming balm when I lose heart and courage.
You, dear Lord, are my fortress among the hills, my help amidst the storm. Amen.
