Daily Devotional: September 01, 2023 – Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Today, we are thinking about a special verse from the book of Proverbs: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” At first glance, it seems like it’s mainly saying we should guide kids right. But, it’s more than just that!

This verse gives us a big job. It tells us to be teachers. But not just any subject, we’re supposed to teach kids how to be good people.

It’s like planting a seed. If we put the seed in good soil and give it plenty of sunshine and water, it’ll grow into a strong tree. Just like the seed, if we give kids love, good lessons, and God’s word, they will grow into strong, good people.

But, how do we do that? Well, we have to make sure they know about God’s love. We have to show them how to love others. We have to share the Bible with them. And, just like we have to water the seed, we have to make sure kids keep learning about God and His ways.

This verse also gives us hope. Even if kids make mistakes when they’re young, as they grow and remember our teachings, they’ll turn back to the right path.

Remember, we’re not just training kids for today. We’re training them for tomorrow and all the days after.

Just like a strong tree, they will stand tall in their faith, even when the winds of life blow strong. Through God’s grace and our guiding hand, they will remain rooted in His word.

My Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for this day and for the wisdom shared in Proverbs. It reminds us that our job as parents, teachers, and friends is so important. We hold tools to guide the little ones on their journey, helping them build a bond with You and become good people.

God, we ask for Your guidance as we take on this task. Show us the best ways to pass on Your love and wisdom. When we stumble, help us stand up again. When we’re unsure, illuminate our path.

Finally, we ask for your grace for all children. Even if they stray, let them remember Your words and the lessons of love, and find their way back to You.

Through You, we find strength and courage to shape a future faithful to Your word.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Good Morning! Thank you for the daily devotional. As always, it is a blessing to me. This one, in particular, brought me to tears-only because of personal matters with my 3 kids (all grown) which I wish they were doing better in their lives. I think about how I raised them, and I tried to raise them the best way possible. However, this life has thrown a whole lot of curve balls our way. I am reminded that I dare not be surprised, especially because both my husband and I are both in ministry. But, the pain is real, and it definitely hurts from time to time. Anyways, I really didn’t mean to comment about any of this. I clicked on the link that said: “we just made a sign-up link so that you can stay in the loop.” and it brought me back to this page. So, I really wanted to sign-up on the sign-up link. Please let me know if there’s something else I need to do. Thank you!
