Daily Devotional: October 19, 2023 – Psalm 37:4

“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Our focus verse today says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Now that’s a beautiful promise, don’t you think?

I’ve always wondered what “delighting in the Lord” really means. After thinking about it, I believe it means finding joy in being close to God, reading His word, and following His ways. This doesn’t mean we should follow God just to get what we want. Instead, when we truly love God and all His ways, the things our heart wants slowly come into line with His will for us.

Just like when you hang out a lot with a good friend. After a while, you start liking the things they like. It’s the same with God. When we spend time with Him, our heart starts to want what His heart wants.

Isn’t that a joyful thought? Knowing that God’s heart and ours can beat in the same rhythm! Let’s take a moment today to find delight in our beloved friend, our guiding light, our King of Kings – the Lord. It’s a path to understanding that the truest desire of our hearts is, in fact, God Himself.

So today, remember this: With every conversation, every happy and tough moment, every question and thank you – delight yourself in the Lord. Stay close to Him. Then watch how He works in the desires of your heart.

My Prayer

Dear God, help us to love you more, so our hearts can match yours. Help us delight in you every day. Just like a child finds joy in a new toy, let us find joy in living out your word.

As we bask in your love, Lord, mold our hearts to reflect your will. Align our desires with yours so that what we want is what you want for us. Help us stay on the path you have set and trust your guidance.

In closing, we pray that, as we delight in you, you fill our hearts with your love, peace, and joy. May we feel the stirrings of your spirit and see the outpouring of your blessings in our lives.

In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
